Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Social Steps.
How does Social Steps work?
Social Steps reads your daily steps from Apple Health and converts them into screen-time minutes. You choose which apps to limit; those apps stay blocked until you've earned enough time by walking.
How many steps do I need for one minute?
By default, 200 steps equal 1 minute of screen time. With Premium you can set your own conversion rate to make it easier or more challenging.
Which apps can I block?
You can select any apps or categories on your device using Apple's Screen Time picker. Social Steps never sees the names of the apps you choose — that selection stays private to your device.
Do I need to keep the app open?
No. The blocking runs in the background through Apple's Screen Time system. Open Social Steps now and then so it can update your latest step count.
Why does my step count show 0?
Social Steps needs permission to read your steps. Go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Social Steps and turn on Steps. You can also tap “Open Settings” on the app's home screen.
Why is the counter only updated when I reopen the app?
Apple limits how often apps can read step data in the background. When you return to Social Steps it refreshes immediately, and it also corrects past days using your real total from Apple Health.
What does Premium include?
Premium lets you set your own conversion rate and add bonus minutes manually. It's a monthly subscription, billed through your App Store account in your local currency.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name › Subscriptions › Social Steps, and choose Cancel. Your Premium features remain active until the end of the current billing period.
Is my health data safe?
Yes. Your step data is read locally on your device and is never collected, shared, or sold. Read more in our Privacy Policy.
It doesn't work on my work/managed iPhone.
Some devices managed by an employer or organization (MDM) restrict Screen Time permissions, which Social Steps needs to block apps. On a personal iPhone this works normally.
